Glass, metals, and general manufacturing.

Glass, metal finishing and plating, forging, fabrication, electronics. Plants that make and finish things, where the wastewater carries metals, the air carries particulate, and the chemical inventory changes every quarter.

Metal fabrication machinery and manufactured components on a factory floor.

Regulatory obligations

  • Federal categorical pretreatment standards (metal finishing, electroplating) applied through a Significant Indirect User permit, with sampling for metals, cyanide, and pH
  • A NJPDES permit if you discharge directly
  • Air permits for furnaces, coating lines, degreasing, and dust collection, with emission statements
  • Tier II and Community Right-to-Know reporting; TRI where thresholds apply
  • RCRA generator obligations for spent solutions, sludges, and solvents
  • A stormwater permit and SPPP for scrap, drums, and outdoor processing
  • Hazard communication and the safety documentation that sits beside the environmental file

Services

Permits and compliance. Categorical compliance calculations, SIU permits and renewals, self-monitoring reports, air permit management, Tier II and RTK, RCRA documentation — and the sewerage authority and NJDEP correspondence.

Operations. Class N operator coverage and troubleshooting for pH neutralization, metals precipitation, clarification, and sludge dewatering systems.

Sampling and testing. Compliance sampling for metals and cyanide through accredited partner labs under one chain of custody; process-control testing at the plant.

Plans and training. SPCC, contingency plans, and the RCRA and hazard-communication training the records need.

Engineering support. Pretreatment system evaluations and Treatment Works Approvals when the process line changes.

Typical situations

  • A metals exceedance on a self-monitoring report and the authority’s follow-up
  • A plating line expansion that triggers new categorical limits
  • A permit nobody has read since the last plant manager left
  • Drum storage in the yard with no stormwater coverage
  • An air permit emission statement due with no one assigned to it
